100% Update: Two More Sleeps

Dad has been counting from last week ...

You Decide ...
It's about 4:45 pm, and I just got the "What are your plans tonight?" email from MyBeloved. This time, she actually gave me a choice. She said, "Pick your poison." Well, here are my choices ... what would you do?

Dad Hits the Streets
I told you about Dad's visit last week to Dr. BoneFixer. Well, it appears that Dad snuck out over the weekend to make a few dollars (or pennies in this case). And PrayerWarriorToo caught Dad on tape. Check him out:

That's Not Right (#4)
That's not right ... a collection of stories, events, and incidents that are just ... not right!
Remember my friend, LegalAide? You should, I just told you about her a few minutes ago. Anyway, while we were talking about life and signing over Dad's life savings to me, Dad decided to pass some gas.
I said, "Dad, you just tooted in front of my friend. That's not right!" (... I know it's sexist, but if "she" were a "he" I would not have said anything ... I would have just laughed ... )
Smiling, Pacino-voiced-Dad responded, "It was medically necessary."
Nice.

100% Update: It's a Legal Update
My friend LegalAide came with me to visit Dad today ... well, not to visit Dad ... but to notarize some documents. Since LegalAide has been following our journey since the beginning, she knew all the stories and all the names. We ran into Pastor LittleBabies, who was rapping with Dad right after lunch.
LegalAide said that Dad looks like he was ready to just jump out of bed ... luckily he didn't ... but instead, he grabbed a pen and signed over all of his life savings to me (Sorry, CaveBear) ... I mean, he signed the accident report information sheet for the insurance company. Thanks for the help, LegalAide. Here's an update on Dad:
- Dad passed his final respiratory test, which means his lungs are back to normal and better than ever! It also means no more respiratory therapy. Respiratory Therapists Q1, RedWisdom, Mouse, Sunshine, TooTall, BubbleGum and GottaGo would be so proud of Dad.
- Dad took his longest walk yet during morning physical therapy. Most of his exercises have gone from lying down, to sitting up, to standing up.
Dad continues to be worried about the nerve damage throughout his face due to the multiple factial fractures. He talked to Dr. Groovin' about it this morning and, based upon that chat, Dad said that we could all pray for the following:
- That the nerves throughout his fact start to regenerate on their own without surgery.

100% Update: End of an Era
Way back when this whole mess started, the TraumaTeam put a food "peg" tube into Dad so that he could enjoy all-you-can-eat ("AYCE") MedicalMilkshakes around the clock. When Dad left the TraumaCondo to go to TheSelect, he started eating some real food, but he kept his AYCE Tube for when Dad's Tum-Tum wasn't feeling so good due to the real food. Since moving to WorthyRehab, he had not used the AYCE Tube.
Well, today is the end of an era ... Dad's AYCE Tube gets removed today! Let us rejoice and celebrate. Meet me at ChinaPan or GoldenCorral?

That's Not Right (#3)
That's not right ... a collection of stories, events, and incidents that are just ... not right! I am speechless about this one. This is why you should never let your wife take your son to your daughter's birthday party sleepover at a hotel with a bunch of 10 year old girls!
Honey, I know you never read G&G ... you don't have time ... but if you ever happen to stumble on this site, and particularly this post, just know ... that's not right!

100% Update: Dem' Bones
This is an XRAY (... Get it? An afternoon play on words ... XRAY of RAY ...) dancin' into the evening. ( ... Speaking of dancing ... I bet good 'ol Righty is on his way to the dancehall this evening with his repaired heart ... Remember him? ...).
Anyway, Dad just returned from Dr. BoneFixer, who said that the BoneBreaks were all healing nicely. What does that mean? Well, the fracture on the clavicle was almost not visible. More importantly, the pelvic bones were showing to be totally symmetrical ... meaning the pelvis was healing straight. BoneFixer, another one who saw Dad when he first came into the trauma unit, was totally impressed with Dad's recovery. (... LIGHTBULB! ... Bing! Can you say, Miracle? Can you say, Power of Prayer? ...)
Keep 'dem bones moving everyone. Have a good weekend.

From One Place to Another
No. Dad is not moving to another facility. But he is moving down the hall. That dude ... Dad's roommate ... was released today and apperently they need Dad's room for two new chics. How rude of me?!?! They need Dad's room for two new female patients. So, in case you want to visit Dad this weekend ( ... AND YOU SHOULD DO SO! ... ), he can be found at the following:

100% Update: Message from Parker Brothers
That's the best I can say ... a message from our friends at Parker Brothers ... SORRY ...
Dad has gotten better ( ... as he does each day ...) , but I have been so swamped with work and stuff that I did not even talk to Mom or Dad until a few minutes ago. Don't have much time to play SORRY with you today, because I have to go back to my law-thing-appointment, but here's a quick update:
- Dad had one appointment this morning and has one appointment this afternoon.
- Dr. AsianOcular ... a new one to us ... followed-up with Dad's eye this morning. He was impressed on the healing of the cornea ... however, there still remains severe damage to the 6th and 7th nerves. These could take up to a year to heal.
- Dr. BoneFixer ... the one from the TraumaCondo ... will see Dad this afternoon after Dad gets XRAYS of his tailbone, pelvic bone, ribs and clavicle.
- Physical therapy dudes and gals continue to thrash Dad's body, but his determination pushes him through the pain and exhaustion. That Dad wants outta there!
We may be a little slow around here at G&G for the next two days because we are heading down South for a little church retreat. Take a break yourself, but come back as soon as you can. And bring some friends. We have some secret surprises to share with you all!

Not regular ball ... but MedicineBall. Just got a call from Mom, who is reporting live from Dad's physical therapy gym (... PTGym ...) . She says that Dad is standing up, without leaning on his walker, and playing ball with the physical therapist. You go, Dad! (Must have been all that rest that Dad got last night ... yep ... Mom says that Dad slept from 11:00pm to about 5:45am ... that is the longest run yet.)
Stay tuned for some pics from the PTGym.

Righty Update: H.S.H.

Just got a call from Righty ... that guy who had a little ( ... no, BIG ... ) scare earlier this week ... and he is at home finally. That's right, HOME SWEET HOME! Here's the Righty Update:
- Lefty and Righty are back together again.
- Directions from the doctors: "Stay put, dude! ... Chill out! ... And no square dancing for now!" Righty says he'll go see his friends on Friday, but won't dance!
- Follow-up with the doctors next week for the GamePlan.
Thanks for the call, Righty. There have been a lot of people praying for you. That means, your life ... after this incident ... will never be the same. You have an amazing story to tell and lots of people that will need to hear it.

SunFlower Greeters ... We Love You!
World, you've known her as SunFlower Greeters ... we know her as Carolyn Usher. She is a wonderful lady, mom, wife, and friend to many. I know her impact on this world based upon how well she raised her children. MyBeloved knows her impact on the world based upon her mentoring of many young married women. Yesterday, she went Home. Here is a note from her son:
With a heavy and yet rejoicing heart I report to you that our Mom, Carolyn, has been promoted to Glory.
Mom passed onward this afternoon around 12:30 in the presence of family, nurses and her doctor at the Spartanburg Hospice House.
We rejoice in that Mom is no longer in discomfort and will not further suffer. We rejoice that Mom is with the Lord, singing His praises, fully restored.
We mourn the loss of our Mom, as we have lost an incredible woman of the Lord, a phenomenal and loving wife to my Dad, and an amazing mother to both my brother Abe and I, as well as several others through ministry.
I cannot express the appreciation that the family has for all of the support from friends, colleagues, family, and the body of Christ. We will continue to look to the Lord for manna. Though the road ahead is a rough one, we stand on the solid rock of the Lord, continuing to trust in Him as He guides us out of the valley.

100% Update: Great Expectations
"Mrs. Joe was a very clean housekeeper, but had an exquisite art of making her cleanliness more uncomfortable and unacceptable than dirt itself." (Charles Dickens, Great Expectations)
Dad is no housekeeper, but he has an exquisite art of making his rehabilitation more uncomfortable and more painful than the average "recovering messed up dude." The RehabTeam continues to be amazed at Dad's progress ... but it is not enough in Dad's mind. He's a goal setter ... he's a fighter ... he remains my hero! Here is what Dad has been able to conquer over the past few days:
- Get dressed ... although he needs help with the left sock and shoe
- Shower ... although he needs help washing the left foot ( ... are you seeing a trend here? ... )
- Stand up, walk to bathroom with walker, and ... you know ...
- Walk to gym down the hall with walker ... he refuses to take the wheelchair
- Stand up for 2 minutes without walker
- Climb 5 stairs with rails
Basically, Dr. Groovin' says that Dad is almost 100% "there" brainly, mentally, cognitively ( ... which is why they can set a target release date ... ), but that his physical body needs help ( ... muscles, bones, eyes, mouth, etc. ... ).
Let's re-word that ... Dad's brain tells Dad's left leg to move and the message actually gets there = brain works. However, Dad's left leg does not move as quickly and as strongly as it should because the leg is injured = muscle or bone damaged. And since Dad has imposed GreatExpectations on himself, he gets frustrated.

"Righty" is All Right!
I woke up to the following message from Lefty ... who, as you may know, is the wife of Righty ... who, as you may know, is our friend Ric Young and is one of the EarlyBirds ... which, as you may know, is the group of men who meet every Tuesday morning at some location in Nashville to fellowship, read the Word, and pray ...
Hey Self,
A great big Praise the Lord! and thank you, too!
The pacemaker has been disconnected and Ric is holding steady. If he makes it through the night ok, they may let him go home Wednesday, no pacemaker, (just half a drug store).
The doctors are really impressed with his recovery.
Ric and I are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and prayer. If I look around hard enough I might find the right words, but all I can think of right now is our God truly is an AWESOME GOD and we as his children are truly blessed.
Thanks again for all the love, support and prayers.

100% Update: Not Safe for Work

100% Update: Road to Recovery
I told you that I would tell you about the Road to Recovery ... And it looks like we are very much on our way. The map was drawn by the children in PowerChurch a few weeks ago. Here's what is looks like:
Now, let's start at the beginning of the Road to Recovery ... The "X" marks the spot of where Pastor Ray, or Pappy Rayzor, started this journey ... in a hospital bed ... "Make sure you get your Bible ... food for your tummy & mind." Stage #2 is working out with barbells, to get strong like superman.

Stage #3 is "walking with God and your walker" (... such brilliant little minds ...). Stage #4 is to fill your lungs with the Holy Spirit ... not a trach ...

Stage #5 is for full eye recovery ... to see your sheep! Stage #6 is full hearing recovery ... to hear the World's prayers for you. Stage #7 is full speech recovery ... to speak the truth with your tongue (... not to be confused with tounge ...)

Stage #8 is full mouth recovery ... to each meat with your chompers and smile! Finally, 110% full recovery has you returning to your church.

Okay, Okay ...
The news that you have been waiting for ... The hospital has a proposed release date for Dad of Nov. 20. ... What? You want me to speak up. Okay ...
The hospital has a proposed release date for Dad of Nov. 20.
This translates into: the RehabTeam says that Dad should be ready to be released in about 10 days, provided he reaches certain milestones in therapy, provided his case manager works out the final details, and provided we can do an extreme home makeover to accomodate Dad. We will let you know!

Righty Update: Logistics
You've heard about our friend, Ric "Righty" Young, who had a severe heart attack two nights ago. He remains in critical care at TheHills, but we were able to see him last night and this morning. For the past two years, Righty had been part of our men's bible study on early Tuesday mornings.
Righty's wife, Lefty, was able to go home last night and get some rest. The EarlyBirds met at the hospital this morning for our weekly ritual. In true-Righty fashion ( ... meaning if you know him you will understand this ... ), Righty called my cell phone from his hospital bed at about 6:05am ( ... he was late after all ... ) and said, "What are the logistics for this morning?" Above is a picture of a normal brain. Below is a picture of Righty's brain ...
You're a funny guy, Righty. We love you. To all of Righty's friends and family, he is in good spirits ( ... that's not surprising knowing Ric ... ). He looked like he had a rough night, but he is able to talk and see you with both eyes ... unlike our one-eyed Pastor. Righty reported that he does not know when or if they will put in the internal pacemaker. We will let you know once we hear from our on-the-scene reporter, Lefty.

That's Not Right (#1)
That's not right ... a collection of stories, events, and incidents that are just ... not right! Today's TNR story comes from a conversation between Dad and BigVolFan a few days ago. Let's see what Dad had to say ...
Dad: ( ... in his best Pacino/Brando voice ... ) VolFan, come here!
BVF: Yes, Ray.
Dad: Did the water bill come in for the church?
BVF: Yes, I think so.
Dad: How much was it?
BVF: I don' t know. Off the top of my head, I think it was about $300.
Dad: That's not right. That's too much. Something's wrong. We gotta do something about that water bill.
________________________________
No, Dad, you're not right! Worry about your recovery. Let someone else worry about that water bill.

Have Prayers, Will Travel
The EarlyBirds ... a group of men in Nashville who meet every Tuesday to read the Word, pray and fellowship ... have been mobile for the last 8 weeks. We've going where Dad has been. Now, one of our very own, Ric Young (a.k.a. Righty) had a severe heart attack last night and remains in critical care. Since Righty can't come to us, we will go to him. If you want to join us, we will be at the critical care unit family waiting room on the second floor at Southern Hills Medical Center (... TheHills ...) tomorrow morning at 6:00am.
I talked to Righty tonight and he looks good. I told him that since he is already at the hospital, it will be the first Tuesday morning that he will actually be there on time ... he smiled!

Another's ViolentSilence (#2)
You've heard about our ViolentSilence. You've heard about Another's ViolentSilence (#1). I am sad to report about Another's ViolentSilence (#2). Last night, Righty, one of our regular attenders to the early morning men's group ( ... we call ourselves the EarlyBirds ... ) had a severe heart attack. Here's what happened:
Please pray for Righty and Lefty. Most of you know Righty, a member of Flat Rock Squares. Please keep him in you prayers. Righty suffered a massive heart attack last night. Righty and Lefty (his wife) had fallen asleep while watching a Ball game on the TV. Lefty woke to Righty making a funny noise and jerking. She woke Righty and he got up and walked to
the bathroom, checked his sugar and took his medicine. Lefty noticed his color was very pale & his pulse was weak. Righty would not let her call 911. He walked to the car and she drove him to the hospital and they transported him to TheHills.
Righty made it thru the surgery, about 3:30 we were able to go back & see him. He had a blockage behind his heart and they put a stint in. The doctor said he made it fine thru the first quarter. He does have some other heart related problems that he felt like they could treat with medication. We do not know at this time if they will have to go back in and put in a pace maker or not. At this time he is hooked to a pacemaker, ventilator and other stuff. He has opened his eyes and squeezed Lefty's hand. They will be running more tests today.

God is Still Here!
You may have thought that ... with all the logo contests, "Rooting for Ray" pics and "Behind-the-Scenes" peeks ... we forgot about God in our lives. In the words of Romans 3:4, NO WAY DUDE!
International Standard Version (©2008)
Of course not! God is true, even if everyone else is a liar. As it is written, "You are right when you speak, and win your case when you go into court."
New American Standard Bible (©1995)
May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, "THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS, AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED."
GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995)
That would be unthinkable! God is honest, and everyone else is a liar, as Scripture says, "So you hand down justice when you speak, and you win your case in court."
King James Bible
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
American King James Version
God forbid: yes, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That you might be justified in your sayings, and might overcome when you are judged.
American Standard Version
God forbid: yea, let God be found true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy words, And mightest prevail when thou comest into judgment.
Bible in Basic English
In no way: but let God be true, though every man is seen to be untrue; as it is said in the Writings, That your words may be seen to be true, and you may be seen to be right when you are judged.
Douay-Rheims Bible
But God is true; and every man a liar, as it is written, That thou mayest be justified in thy words, and mayest overcome when thou art judged.
Darby Bible Translation
Far be the thought: but let God be true, and every man false; according as it is written, So that thou shouldest be justified in thy words, and shouldest overcome when thou art in judgment.
English Revised Version
God forbid: yea, let God be found true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy words, And mightest prevail when thou comest into judgment.
Webster's Bible Translation
By no means: verily let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mayest be justified in thy sayings, and mayest overcome when thou art judged.
Weymouth New Testament
No, indeed; let us hold God to be true, though every man should prove to be false. As it stands written, "That Thou mayest be shown to be just in the sentence Thou pronouncest, and gain Thy cause when Thou contendest."
World English Bible
May it never be! Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar. As it is written, "That you might be justified in your words, and might prevail when you come into judgment."
Young's Literal Translation
Let it not be! and let God become true, and every man false, according as it hath been written, 'That Thou mayest be declared righteous in Thy words, and mayest overcome in Thy being judged.'
Just last night, Dad was telling me to share with the fellow sheeppups ( ... church leaders ... ) that he is praying for them daily, that he is going to be alright, and that Jesus is still Lord! So, if you are wondering whether we lost our focus ... the answer is, "No, we are still pointed true north."

Another Funky Prayer Request
Dad needs your prayers that these ( ... above ... ) work.
"In everything, let your requests be made known unto God," says Paul. (Phillipians 4:6). In other words, nothing is too small or too great to be handled in prayer.

The Iris
As you walk down the halls of Dad's new habilitation facility ( ... we call it WorthyRehab ... ), you will see the above picture outside some of the doors. Why is there a picture of an iris on some of these doors? Does this help?
The inflorescences are fan-shaped and contain one or more symmetrical, six-lobed flowers. These grow on a pedicel or lack a footstalk. The three sepals, which are spreading or droop downwards, are referred to as falls.
Thanks for the info, Wiki. Yep, that's right ... it's all in the name of the three sepals ... falls ... or in Dad's case, "Fall Protection" ... it's notice to the World (and more particularly the staff) to use precaution when transporting Dad and to take extra fall protection measures. Neat, huh?

WorthyRehab: A Behind-the-Scenes Look
Hello my friends. I know that you non-Nashvillians have been dying to see the new place. Well, jump into the MovingBox and let's tack a ride to the Second Floor.
That was a quick ride, huh? The rooms ... so spacious ... includes a mom and a dad in them. No little bars of soap in the bathroom, though. And the hallways in this place are never-ending. Reminds me of being lost in the Overlook Hotel ... from The Shining ... only a lot cleaner! Take a look for yourself ...
And finally, here is Dad's wall of love ... which includes pictures of all his family and loved ones. Remind me to tell you about that Roadmap to Recovery ...

100% Update: The Great Outdoors
It's been almost seven weeks since the accident ... which also means it's been almost seven weeks since Dad has been outside. Today ... that long run ... ended. Yep, Dad and Mom sat outside in the courtyard at WorthyRehab. We will post some pics of the courtyard later, but you know that afternoon breeze in the sun felt good.
